In the distant western frontier, there once thrived a town known as Deadlands. Its streets brimmed with lively shops and bustling houses, while the local saloon never saw an empty seat. Folks from all corners of the country flocked here, drawn by the promise of silver buried deep in the mines beneath the town. But the desire for wealth begets lawlessness, and Deadlands became the ideal hunting ground for the relentless bounty hunter, Cyrus Lynch. If he was on your trail, he’d find you.

It started with one hanging. Cyrus brought in a man for a murder he more than half-knew the man didn’t do, and he stood there and let him swing for it anyway. Within days, the dead of Deadlands stopped staying buried. The hanged, the murdered, the old bones in the ground, all of them clawed their way back up, wrong and hungry and confused.

The sole living survivor is Cyrus Lynch. He can’t bring himself to kill these poor souls a second time, so he traps what he can and buries it away in the dark corners of the Deadlands, lest the infestation spread beyond. But the dead don’t stay where he puts them any better than they stayed in the ground. He is a man bailing out a boat with a hole in it, every night, forever.
