Originally known as the Silver Dollar Mine, this once-lucrative mine made Deadlands rich. But the mountain took its toll, cave-ins, bad air, men who descended and didn’t return, year after year, until the locals stopped using the proper name. After enough funerals, only one name stuck: Misery Mine.

Then the mountain decided to keep the whole crew. A cave-in trapped them deep underground, just ordinary miners, regular men, with no way out and no way for anyone to reach them. Down in the dark, cut off, they ran out of food, ran out of hope, ran out of their minds, and finally turned on each other to last a few more days. None of it saved them. The mine was sealed and left to the dark.

It should have stayed that way. But someone found a fresh silver deposit in the unstable lower tunnels, and greed did what greed always does. Men were sent back down. They haven’t come back.

The mine is a place of cave-ins, bad air, crushing dark, and the trapped miners themselves, still down there, still starving, still clawing for a way out that no longer exists.
